I've been wishing for this for years... Why don't you add an "abbreviate" check box for 4/4 or 2/2 time in the first level of the Time Signature dialogue box, just as you do when you click for More Options? This would let you override (or not bother with) the option in the Time Signature preferences. Thanks for considering.

If you select the time signature form the selection tool context menu, the abbreviations are there. I realize this may not be ideal in all situations.

Ah... Good trick that I wasn't aware of. Thanks. My suggestion seems logical, though. If the tick box is in the More Options dialogue box, why not in the primary?
