Hello , I have been facing a problem I would like to get some answers on. Thing is the volume of the garritan cfx is very low when I try to play it. According to my knowledge it might actually be a volume issue or velocity issue. I want to state down all the methods I already tried. So for velocity, I tried tweaking the curve included in the CFX itself. But to get a reasonable sound by this approach , I have to tweak the curve to the point that all the soft dynamics vanishes . Every notes become very loud . I also tried another approach by installing this software called MIDIOX , where you can monitor your midi . I use a YAMAHA P45 as my controller and I noticed my midi controller had a velocity range from 1 -110 . So I tried data mapping where you can input your controllers velocity range and output it to the maximum midi value 0-127 . This approach dint even give any satisfactory results . I also tried using this plug-in called VELO SCALER which basically manipulates incoming midi data velocity, the results were pretty much like my first approach where the soft dynamics disappears. So now it makes me wonder wether it is actually a velocity or volume issue . About the volume , it's very very low if I don't tweak the velocity curve , but tweaking the curve as I mentioned earlier cuts all the soft dynamics . I hope I was able to you understand about the issues I am facing. Does anyone have any solutions towards this ? Please advice

Hi Sakef,

It sounds like your issue does not involve the incoming MIDI velocity data or the velocity curve in the CFX itself. Rather this sounds like a relative volume issue where the CFX is quieter than other sounds on your system.

If this the case, go to the Tools menu and select Preferences. Try switching your Audio Device API, sample rate and buffer size and see if you get better results.

Hi, I'm coming across this or a similar issue.  The symptoms are as follows and affect both CFX lite and Concert Grand.

When playing any of the libraries, if a note is struck repeatedly with the same or relative velocity, using a flat velocity profile (5 - default (advanced settings) the first note is the true velocity response, later notes are weaker and random notes will become near to relative velocity, it's as if it is generating a random velocity profile.

System and setup specifications:

2020 16" Macbook Pro Custom order (maxed out) running Mac OS 10.15.7, Logic  Pro X latest revision, etc.

Garritan Anthology + CFX Concert Grand.

Audio Interface: Focusrite Clarett 4Pre USB-C running at 48khz 24 bit at 256 samples

Master Controller: Fatar StudioLogic SL88 Studio over USB. Have ensured all midi settings are correct, using triple pedal also. disabled aftertouch with same result. velocity curve profile is flat.

Attempts to fix this have included the following:

Testing both Aria Player and CFX Lite / Concert Grand (have uninstalled CFX Grand as CFX Concert Grand replaces lite edition. These have been tested in both DAW and standalone profiles.

Confirmed issues with third party software and instruments which do not show this problem.

Check and reset audio interface,

check settings for both audio and midi, all correct and working.

Have gone to "advanced" to expand RAM limit to 16gb and disk cache to 256kb as this is an SSD system.

Any thoughts as trying to play particular pieces is puzzling me. one minute I am working with stable veloocities, as soon as I push it or use complex pieces, the first hard struck note is fine, other notes are weaker. MIDI CC checking shows that velocities from the master controller are fine. Can't make sense of this.

Could you help please?

Please pass this to your programmers / devs. this is an important fix requirement. I have resolved the above issue, but this fix needs a programming change / addition to CFX Lite, CFX Concert Grand and also in part to Aria Player, this also applies to the plugin versions for DAWs.

This is for the advanced settings page of the CFX grand apps, plugins, etc.

Please include a “default write” so that when creating a change to stay permanent, rather than a “per program” instance.

The problem some users face and as I’ve had it is as follows…

if loading CFX lite or CFX Concert Grand and loading any piano program and it’s samples, some users will notice velocity stealing and drop outs, this isn’t an issue with sampling at all, it’s this… “OMNI” as midi channel. Set MIDI channel to 01 for master keyboards and not OMNI, as some master keyboards have split functions like all StudioLogic  series master controllers, so set the channel as either 1, 2, 3 or 4. This should then be “Save as default”. also the ability to save as default the RAM allocation and disk cache parameters, instead, they default to particular programs and that can be messy.

There’s also another problem with the Aria player, based on the CFX Concert Grand… the presets which  come up in the actual CFX concert grand do not appear as sub menus, only one appears wihch is 1 - extra which gives  certain presets, then the player and other library menus are not menus, just single instances to load. it should be a set of sub menus like would be found in CFX Grand and Lite. so something’s wrong.

Is there a way on your blog you can post an article advising users who encounter “Voice stealing” on the CFX lite and CFX Concert Grand instruments to advise users to switch the MIDI channel in the Advanced tab from OMNI to channel 1, especially if you’re a user who has a master controller such as a studiologic SL series or any professional workstation / master controller with multi channel zones / sends. This will fix the issue. but this does need a fix within the software to perform a “Default Write” to save preferences in the ADVANCED tab such as RAM usage, Disk Cache, etc, so that each time the plugin is loaded, rather than having to constantly change settings, those settings are instantly recalled
