I'm writing a choral piece with two staves, a top treble clef stave that accommodates the soprano and alto parts, and a bass clef staves that holds the tenor/bass parts. However, the piece, towards the end, becomes very contrapuntal, and trying to get the text into each of the four parts is very confusing. So, I would like to, at that place, switch to 4 staves-the top 2 treble clef for the women, a tenor clef for the 3rd staves, and the final staff in the bass clef for the basses. Now when I go back to a more homophonic texture that can be accommodated with just 2 staves, I want to switch back to the original treble clef and bass clef. How do I do this?

Thanks-

You create your file with the maximum number of staves needed, 4. In the measures where you need 4 staves, fill them as you like. The remaining music is on 2 staves, so you hide the 3rd & 4th staves in the rest of the score.

When doing this, I find it best to work with all 4 staves visible, including the blank ones. Then when you're finished entering music and you're ready to work on layout, at this point you hide the unused staves.
