In order to mark a violin part with portamento (NOT glissandos!) I typically use the smart shape tool and select the straight line.  It marks the portamento fine but then if I take the measure with that marking and then copy & paste it to a villa or cello staff the portamento line is no longer lined up precisely next to the notes as they were in the violin.  Does anyone have a solution to this?

I am using Finale v26.3 and Mac OS 10.13.6

They all use different clefs, no? The line may be attached to a staff position, rather than the notes themselves. (Just speculating.)

Instead of the smart shape line, have you tried using the tab slide? Those lines move as you transpose the notes.

Thank you both Mike and Jeffrey for your responses.  Jeffrey your idea of using the tab slide line works perfectly!  Thank you again.
