Hi,

Half way my score there is a key change for just one instrument. That works. The instruments which changes key receives double (left) barlines. That's also ok.

The problem is that now all other staves automatically also receive double (left) barlines. Is there a way to avoid the automatic double barlines for all instruments which are not changing key when changing only the key of one instrument in a score?

Thanks!

Michel Havenith,

Since it is just a single barline in a single staff, I suggest that you use the Expression Tool to add an extra (false) barline.

In the Document Options you can see the document’s Barline Thickness (in case you do not remember the Barline Thickness).

Create the false barline as a shape expression. It should be a vertical line, 24 Points high.

Thanks for your reply, Peter. Your suggestion is not quite clear to me. You mention to *add* a false barline. My problem however is that I want to get rid of all the double barlines, except the ones in the instrument stave that has the key change. Sorry if I might have misunderstood.

Sorry for not being clear.

In your first post you wrote

“(left)”

barline.

You probably meant

“(right)”

barline.

- Right?

(a so called Left Barline will not show unless it is in the first measure of a system)

What I meant:

1) Change the Double Barline back to a (single) Normal Barline.

2) In the staff with the key change, use the Expression Tool to add an extra, false barline - so that there are two barlines:

the false barline (= shape expression), and the normal barline.

You can set up the expression (or perhaps even a separate, new expression category) so that its default positioning is exactly as needed.

Thanks again. With (left) I meant the left barline of the bar with the key change. If I select either the proceeding bar or the bar with the key change, the double barlines cannot be changed into a single barline. What I do is: I select the measure proceeding the key change measure, click right and click 'Barline' in the menu. The submenu that comes up indicates the barline is set to "normal". The same goes for the measure with the key change.

I also tried (both the key change measure and the proceeding measure) to set 'Measure attributes' to normal but that doesn't seem to change the double barlines in the Measure Attributes window for the measure (any instrument) proceeding the key change, 'Barline' is set to Normal and 'Left barline' is set to Default. Changing default into normal doesn't change appearance. Same goes for the measure with the key change.

In Document Options, the option to display a "Double Barline before Key Changes" should probably be unchecked if you want a single barline everywhere but a second barline as an expression in a specific staff.

Thanks, Michel. This did the trick of getting rid of the double barlines in the staves of the other instruments in the score. I then added an extra barline with the expression tool in the one stave with the key change measure.

Problem solved.
