Finale 2014.5.6359

Playback was fine a couple of months ago, but acted up today. The only change is at Finale startup I repeated get a message:

“Extension .lib is already registered as 'VisualStudio.lib.7a962feb'. Do you want to register this file type with Finale as 'FinaleLibrary' instead?” I always indicate YES. When I check the associated APP extensions, it shows that .lib is associated with Finale. I have to other errors. I defeated this error by clearing the value from the key, but the audio problem remains. I have a Diamond USB external sound card digital HD 7.1 with speakers attached. Windows 10 Audio Setup shows Speakers (USB Mulit-Channel Audio Device) as the default.

When I select Play through MIDI, the sound comes out the USB speakers, but it does sound like it is using the best sound samples.

With Play Finale through VST checked, I can use the TEST SOUND button and hear playback through my USB attached speakers, but when I close the dialog box, the sound reverts to the laptop internal speakers.

Score manager shows Garritan Instruments for Finale for each instrument.

MIDI/Audio

checked Play Finale through VST

in VST Banks and effects, ARIA player is selected (Smartmusic SoftSynth is available)

in Device Setup / Audio Setup there are three options ASIO, DirectSound, and WASAPI

When ASIO is selected, the only output option is Realtek AISO, the internal speakers

When DirectSound is selected, there are several output source options.

Speakers (USB Mulit-Channel Audio Device)

Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)

Digital Output (USB Mulit-Channel Audio Device)

Realtek Digital Output (Realtek High Definition Audio)

When I select Speakers (USB Mulit-Channel Audio Device), the settings button will open a volume mixer dialog with sliders for System Sounds and Finale. When I click the Test Audio Output button, a sound plays through the speakers. However, when I playback the score, the sound is from the internal speakers.

When WASAPI is selected, there are several output source options. Note the order of Realtek moved to the first in the list.

Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)

Speakers (USB Mulit-Channel Audio Device)

Digital Output (USB Mulit-Channel Audio Device)

Realtek Digital Output (Realtek High Definition Audio)

If I Test Audio Output with Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) selected, I hear sound out of both the internal and the USB speakers. If I Test Audio Output with Speakers (USB Mulit-Channel Audio Device) selected, I also hear sound out of both the internal and the USB speakers. However, when I playback the score, the sound is from the internal speakers only.

When I select Play through MIDI, the sound comes out the USB speakers, but it does sound like it is using the best sound samples.
