Could your programmers please look into a writing the technique "play 2nd time" so we don't need to do a work-around? Even a "play 1st time only". That would be awesome.
Finale 25.5 Mac OS Yosemite 10.10
So if Finale does develop such a routine, you would not only buy the new version of Finale but also a new computer that could run it?
Doing the work-around is not that difficult and is a lot less expensive. So unless Jari comes up with a plug-in to cover the situation, you may be stuck.
Mike, Adrian,
This sounds like a request I made years ago ("Tacit on Repeat") which still hasn't been addressed. See below:
"In scoring an arrangement, I want to have instruments be tacit while individuals solo during a repeat while having some portions of the repeat played (e.g. trumpet section "hits" or sax section "pads"). The best way I've found to do this is the approach suggested in the post "Tacit on Playback", which requires creating an "Technique" expression to set instruments to a blank midi channel, then resetting back to the correct instrument midi channel when you want to hear the instrument again. This rapidly becomes unwieldy when there are multiple horns involved because each has to be reset individually, and it gets worse if you change to a different ensemble, because the midi instrument channels may have changed.
It seems that the most simple solution (for us users, not necessarily your programmers) would be create an attribute of a selection of music that determines how midi output is handled.
- If the selection is designated "TACIT" THEN Finale sends any commands to a null channel output.
- If the selection is designated "PLAY" THEN Finale sends midi commands to the selected channel for that instrument.
To handle multiple-repeat scenarios, the "TACIT" and "PLAY" attribute should permit selections like:
TACIT on repeat 1,3
PLAY on repeat 2,4
Thanks for the opportunity to provide an input."
If there's a workaround, please share. Thanks.
