Feature request:

Place graphics with the ability to not only link/unlink graphic attributes between score and parts— which Finale already has— but globally set graphic attributes for ALL parts (independent of the score's graphic placement), so you don't have to adjust the graphic attributes *one-by-one* in each linked part.

Explanation:

When you place a graphic in a score, say, the cover page, its graphic attributes (placement, etc.) by default flow to all parts. If the page format of the score and parts is the *same*, this is no problem.

If they are *different*, however, which is often the case for scores with a lot of instruments (longer page for the score; 'standard' size for parts), the graphic placement in linked parts can get wonky. Although you can unlink the graphic attributes between score and parts, Finale doesn't seem to have a way to globally adjust graphic attributes in just the parts (while leaving the score's graphic placement alone).

This should be for all items not just graphics. You should have the option to link, unlink or globally effect all.

It can be done, but the graphics should be imported in a part, not into the score.

Try this (assuming that all parts have a similar layout) :

• Open a part, place the graphics at the correct position. The position will be similar in all parts.

• In the score, unlink the image and drag it to the position you want.

Hi Michel, Thx. That’s exactly what I discovered I could do, after I emailed you. It’s a decent workaround.

Intuitively, however, one usually inserts the cover page and program notes in the *score*, just as one usually makes important revisions in the score, and not in the parts. So, having that workflow option, would be helpful. See what I mean?
Thx, again.

It would still be nice if other items had a 'select all' and/or 'select none' option like the "Edit" filter has.  The Score Manager comes to mind right off.

Michel, The workaround you and I concurred on now does *not* work. I have to manually align each part's graphic separately. Are you consistently getting this to work?

Actually, THIS is the simplest way: Place the graphic in the SCORE, with an eye to correctly placing it in the parts. Then, unlink Score and Parts, and adjust the score.

Ideally, Finale's Graphic Attributes should let you let you link and unlink parts and score— whether you're in Score or Parts mode. Even more helpful, it should let you apply attributes to all parts or not apply to all parts (i.e., only apply to the part you're working in).

According to my testing, it works if :

• all parts have a similar layout, so that the image can be placed at the same position in all parts

• you place the image in a part directly at the correct position and don't move it. If you move it in a part, the link gets broken and it doesn't move in the other parts.

P.S. : your method is fine, too, checking back and forth the parts and the score.

The standard suggestion for individual graphic placement in score and parts since decades is: create multiple expressions containig the same graphic. Thus, you can control where and how the graphic should be shown.
