Hi,

I'm attempting to switch over to a full Windows setup and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get my programs to speak to each other like they did easily while I was on Mac.

I used Finale v26 as my notation program and send my MIDI data to Reason11 for playback. On Mac, it was a simple open Finale's midi setup and set Finale.app 1 ,2 ,3 ,ect. as my MIDI outs and Reason would pick them up without any issue. As I attempt to do a similar setup while on Windows, I only have SmartMusic SoftSynth 1 ,2 ,3, ect.. (not detected by Reason11) I've attempted to go through each dropdown menu and match my Windows PC to my Mac's settings, with the same results. Am I missing a step I forgot about so long ago when I first setup this up, or does the Mac's version have this added feature that Windows' doesn't? Any steps in the right direction are appreciated.

Maybe try putting loopMIDI between Finale and Reason? I've created a loopback port in loopMIDI (very simple to do) called from Finale, and Finale sees this as a MIDI Out option. I think Reason will probably see from Finale as an input option.

I have used this primarily with MIDIox for diagnosing the data stream. MIDIox allows filtering of channels as well as acting as a thru-port which outboard hardware has no trouble with - like nothing has changed. I just choose from Finale instead of my MIDI interface.

This is in a hardware environment, I know, but I feel certain it will work to bridge the two programs. There could easily be another solution unknown to me, of course.

ReWire may be depreciated code but Finale still installs the libraries. I don't know Reason but if that also supports ReWire, that should solve your issue.

Mr. Hobbs asked, "Am I missing a step...?" I didn't think to answer this, so just in case:

At the top of the page find MIDI / Audio, Device Setup, MIDI Setup..., MIDI Out, Device: select from Finale (in my suggestion).

I don't know ReWire, so it might or might not use this same process.

loopMIDI can be set to boot every time you log into your PC so you won't have to do that manually every time.

How to use ReWire is in the manual.
