Hi Bill, that's a good question. Currently, macOS 12 Monterey is a beta OS and has not yet been released as a public version. As with all beta OSes, this is not considered compatible or supported with any Finale notation products. Feel free to follow our knowledge base article on the topic here to receive information as it becomes available.

It works fine here. Monterey doesn't include many major changes or red lines from Big Sur.

(MacOSes tend to go in pairs, where the second one consolidates (or completes) the changes made in the first one.)

Thanks Ben for giving us something besides the "party line" to go from.... [eyeroll]

What I have found with Finale 26 and Monterey, is that you have to enter notes very slowly in Speedy Entry with a midi keyboard.  Otherwise, you get repeated notes and rests which aren't accurate.  Does anybody else experience this?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for posting your observation here. During our testing this is not something that we noticed on our end, so this is probably being caused by something specific to the setup you are using. If you want, we can take a closer look at this with you directly if you want to submit a tech support ticket with us. I'm sure we can find out what is causing this.

Also, we do now consider Finale (v27. and v26.3.1) compatible and supported with macOS 12 Monterey. You can find more info on that here

Thank you!  I am busy the next few days, but I will definitely take you up on it.  I use a Yamaha UX16 midi interface, so I thought it might need updating the driver, but it didn't seem to help, although I didn't restart and give it a real test.

I started a support ticket on Saturday. How long does it take for someone to get in touch?

Bill, at one point (early in the pandemic) it was over a week. The last couple of tickets I opened, it was a day or two.

I may have solved the speedy entry issue. It might have been an issue with the battery of my bluetooth keyboard.  It said it was out of battery today, and I plugged it in for awhile.  I tried it with it plugged in and no issues.  Unplugged it and still no issues.  So maybe it was that.

Sorry I didn't elaborate last night—deadlines… Anyway, I can’t make the Expressions tool work at all in 27.0.0.728 over Monterey. The screen is blank; checking on the boxes either does nothing or crashes 27.

In 26, the Expressions tool works mostly. I have had a couple of dynamic markings disappear on rewind if I didn’t Save but entering them again and Saving works.

At the moment, 26 lets me get my work done while 27 doesn't.

Hmmm... time to update my profile.

Mike Halloran,

That issue is not typical for v27 in Monterey, according to the posts here in the forum.

Does it happen in all documents?

Yes. New, old doesn’t matter. Support has the crash reports but I’ve not heard anything for a few days. My other big issue is that I can’t get NotePerformer working.

26 is working ok for me in Monterey including NotePerformer. I can open the same docs in 26 and 27 to compare the differences.

I had to upgrade the MacOS to fix a problem in Apple’s Books.app in Big Sur. Seriously, Apple broke their own Books app and didn’t fix it (still broken in iOS 15.) in a way that affects my work.

According to Apple, I was the only one who found this bug. MM says I’m the only one having these problems with 27 in Monterey. Lucky me, I guess.

The 27.1 update brought the Expressions window back and I can use NotePerformer again.

Edit. NotePerformer wasn't completely functional in 26 over Monterey. Neither is it in 27.1 over Monterey but… If I make my assignments in 26, then Save, then open the file in 27.1, everything works. Sheesh!

The solution may be as simple as reinstalling NP, perhaps not. Deadline today. I'll play with this some more on Thursday and report back.

So far, so so — but I can get my work done. Good enough for today.
