I'm trying to create a string slap percussion and guitar body percussion sound that occurs within a measure.  I can figure out how to change the note head to an X to represent a string slap (e.g., on 6th string), but I'm unclear how to assign a different sound (e.g., string slap, guitar body percussion) to this particular note rather than a MIDI guitar note.  Thanks Barry . . .

Put the note in a different layer, and assign a different sound in Score Manager.

Thanks Mike, that does work but it uses up 2 or 3 Layers depending on the number of guitar techniques (e.g., guitar string slapping, body percussion, tapping) used in a score; Hence, I have a limited number of layers to used for musical notes in a more complex score (classical guitar, jazz, or Bossa nova style playing).  Also, there is a limited number of MIDI instrument/sound that resembles these guitar sounds, and it is difficult to find sounds that resemble these guitar techniques.  It would be helpful to have these techniques added to the "Smart Shape Tools" similar to bends, pull-offs, and hammer-ons, etc.

Here are some YouTube examples if you are not familiar with these techniques.  The first is a simple example the second more complex:

Here is a full song example: Just The Two Of Us - Grover Washington Jr / Bill Withers - Solo Acoustic Guitar (Kent Nishimura) - Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMX7w-_h3k4

I also leave a note for Finale tech support.

Best Regards, Barry . . .

The only other suggestion would be to add another staff with your extra sounds, and Force Hide that staff for print. Playback will be complete. You can use JW Change to mute the note in the score. Or, two scores; one for print, and one for playback.

Are there any other apps, designed for guitar notation, that would handle it, better? It looks like Guitar Pro has a lot of what you’re asking for, and it’s on sale!
