I recently started using a PreSonus AudioBox USB 96 with Finale 25 (25.5.0.290) on my HP desktop using Windows 10 Pro.  I can hear Finale fine while writing and during playback.  However, no other sound app (notifications, YouTube, mp3 player) will work, let alone playback.  If I create a WAV file, I have to unplug/replug my sound device just to get sounds on all other apps.  Finale will NOT playback, in fact the scroll locks up.  I have to restart my computer for anything to work.  

I have unchecked "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" in the sound control panel, restarted - still the same issue.

Any advice would be great.  Thank you.

Some audio device drivers (can) seize complete control of the sound interface. Check you diver configuration to see whether that is happening and whether you can disable that function.

You can try a different ASIO driver.

I downloaded the updated drivers for the PreSonus AudioBox USB 96 and everything seemed to be working fine as of today.  However, I experienced a crash.  I found the audio device in Finale had somehow defaulted back to the internal sound card on my desktop.  So I changed back to the AudioBox as my device.  Finale locked up, and now will not open at all.  I am in the midst of uninstall/reinstall now.

(There is a VERY long story of how I got to this point, by the way.  I used to experience 5 to 20 crashed a day before using the external device I'm using now).

Does your FINMIDI.ini file (in @appdata@/MakeMusic/Finale27) have your driver listed in its final section?

I usually have to set ASIOEnabled to equal zero and DirectSoundEnabled to 1 each time I load a new version to get Finale to select the driver I want when I start Finale each time. You might want to open the file in NotePad and check this.
