Hello,

I'm trying to write a piece for a cymbal line, and I want to put notes in different lines to show which notes are played by each player. However, using the cymbal line instrument, I am only able to place notes on the middle line (B in treble clef). Is there a way to change which line or space notes go in?

Score Manager > Notation Style > Percussion and alter the Percussion Layout. It may be helpful to make a copy of the percussion layout so as to not lose the original.

Thanks for the help! Though, now, if I'm reading this right, it's telling me I have to assign each specific sound to its own line. Is there a way to make it so I can put each sound on any line/space simultaneously?

Each sound needs to be assigned to a staff position individually. You don't need to assign all of the sounds, assign just the sounds that you need.

The Cymbal Line instruments are really built for multiple players written across a staff. To make all techniques available for multiple players in the same manner as a marching bass line requires a bit of "magic". You'll need to create a new Percussion MIDI Map based on whichever instrument you're using (my guess is that it is the VDLite Cymbal Line). Each available sound needs to be added once for each player is in the ensemble naming them something like "Crash Cymbal - Player 1", "Crash Cymbal - Player 2", etc. The next step is to create a new Percussion Layout based on this new Percussion MIDI Map. The new layout will allow you to assign all sounds to all players, but displayed using the spaces/lines and note heads.

It sounds more complex than it really is to accomplish. Let me know if you have any other questions. I've been creating these types of files for the full version of Virtual Drumline for many years.
