Windows 10, Finale 26

So, thanks to many responses, I finally have been able to get better grasp on using percussion. I have the COMB and JABB libraries, and the World libraries as well.

My problem right now is trying to access all of those wonderful sounds for playback. Not doing to well.
And, then, when I do get playback, often the volume levels are too weak to hear them in an ensemble. I put the Mixer slider to full, and even use the Expression Tool to mark some instruments at ffff (four Fs) without any change.

Great tips have been to use the Utilities/Change Instrument..., and then to follow-up more specifically in Score Manager.
The other has been to use Utilities/Transpose Percussion...

Nevertheless, problems persist, especially in trying to use those World sounds.

Meanwhile, here are two screen captures relating to the volume problem.

P.S. The volume column here shows 101, but even when I change it here to 127, it makes no difference.

I take it you notice that your Congas are set to a baseline volume of 101 in the Score Manager panel whereas your Timpani are set to 127 (max).

 

Needless to say, sampled percussion volumes (in particular) are a weakness when trying to balance Garritan sounds.

As mentioned to you on another thread, try Noteperfromer3.  Not perfect but way better than the route you are going.

If you listened to my example you should be able to decide if it is for you. Plus there is a free trial version.

J Adrian: yes, I did notice the disparity in baseline volume and the weakness in balancing Garritan sounds, especially percussion and saxophones. I mostly write in the orchestra venue and chamber ensembles, but love the "French orchestral style" sound of the alto saxophone (thank you, Adolph :-) One of my workarounds for playback is to mark the parts' Expression for the score, such as mf or mp, etc, and then use another for playback and uncheck "Show". So "mf" is what would be printed, but "ff" or even "fff" would be the hidden Expression for playback. Seems to work, but should be unnecessary.

Ernest: I replied in my other thread about your YouTube offering, and NotePerformer 3.
I do wonder what the general consensus might be for NP3 vs GPO5, CAMB, and JABB.
