Finale 26, Windows 10
First of all, thanks to all of you who have helped me recover from my headaches from trying to get percussion to appear correctly for print and playback accurately. That is a lot of you, and LOTS of patience !! :-)
I "think" the solution is simple: just accept the fact that Finale will not play back all of the sounds available in the Garritan libraries--which are a considerable number.
Using "Change Instrument..." and "Transpose Percussion Notes" have proven to be my two most valuable tools.
I have also learned that adding some "Articulations" to percussion can either must the sound or even change it. For example, using a snare drum just for rhythmic notes followed by a snare drum roll. By adding the articulation for unmeasured tremolo (three oblique slashes) can result in some cases with no playback. When I change the instrument from "snare drum" to "snare drum roll" the playback is correct, but the notation remains the same--just the note stem. If I apply apply the above mentioned "Articulation," the sound changes to what sounds like a timpani roll. My workaround is to create an "Expression" that looks like the "Articulation" to place on the stem.
So far, after MANY hours of frustrating work, I have my percussion section playing back and appearing nearly 100% of my intention.
For the remaining xxx%, I've learned to live with--but I continue to scour old posts for invaluable tips and instruction.
Again, THANK YOU ALL !!
:-)
