Win10, Finale 27 (latest updates)

Exploding a drum staff into multiple staves does not work. The problem are as follows:

- The explode music dialog box asks for clef numbers. Have to go to clef designer to get the clef number - 12 for the drum clef.  Also seems odd that the first clef is zero instead of 1.

- In the attached screen shots, I want to explode the drum staff into six staves. I enter the clef number, 12, five times (no space for six). I found that the "use these clefs" box only works for single digits 0-9. Entering "12" in the box multiple times is read as 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 - clefs 1 and 2 repeated. It's not possible to explode anything to a clef number >9.

- The "distribute to these staves" appears to only accept single digits 0-9.  Are the stave numbers from the top down? If I wanted to distribute to stave 11 would the result be 1 and 1?  The help text could use some clarification on this function. The text doesn't seem to agree with the example dialog box. The proposed solution is to replace the clef number number lists with clef selection boxes similar to the selection in clef designer.  Replace the stave number list with a drop down list of staff names.

See attached screen shots for the problems and improvement suggestions.

Thanks for listening!

What if you set up your staves in advance and then exploded to those staves? You could define the clefs in advance.

I sense you will still get the equivalent of treble clef note assignments based on MIDI note number unless you also set up percussion maps in advance.

Thanks.  Had not thought of that so I ran a test. The explode is correct but wrong for drum set.  The explode routine would have to be changed for drum set to place notes by staff position instead of "voice" position.

In this example there are six different "voices" but the most is three at a time.

PS - Some of these suggestions would be for explode of any staff not just drum/percussion.
