Finale 26. Windows 10

Hello !

I can't work out how to type musical characters into a line of text. For example, the quarter note symbol (or any note value symbol). The font I use is Tempus Sans ITC. Holding down the  ALT key and typing in the four-digit code does nothing. I can find these symbols in the Maestro font but how to insert them within a line of text is my problem. Many thanks for any tips.

You don't mention with which tool the text has been created.

It is possible to change the font of a selected region of a text created with the Expression Tool or the Text Tool.

Select the region first and change the font (Expression Designer window or Text menu for the Text Tool).

In Maestro, type h for half note, q for quarter note, e for eighth note etc...

Thank you Michael. I am using the text tool to write an explanation before the music. So it looks like, to type in a musical symbol, I have to change fonts twice during the sentence for each symbol: once before and once afterwards. I was hoping that there might be an easier way !!

Ian,

I can't find any non-serif fonts that would make your job easier. However, if you used the Maestro Times font, the musical characters you need are there, and made to fit into text. A utility like PopChars https://www.ergonis.com/products/popcharx/ is invaluable!

Wow PopChar …

Every now and then, while searching for a particular font character, I remember that there was this cool utility that just worked for that — but I couldn't remember the name. I think I had that on my Mac Plus. At less than €30, I'll have to get PopChar X — hmmmm... I wonder if I can find my old license for an upgrade?

Thanks Mikes! Unfortunately I'm very attached to my font, and even on PopChar that font doesn't have the musical symbols, so I'll just have to switch fonts for those isolated symbols. Thanks again for your ideas
