POSSIBLE solution?

For some reason some of my custom saved library files are not loading.
I created one a few days ago that will load, but two that I Saved today from one document will not open in another document.
The the library files are save here: AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 27\Libraries
When I attempt to Load either of these libraries from within another document I get the error message, "Cannot read file..." with the correct path.

So, I tried checking one box at a time in the "Save Library" dialog box and discovered that when checking some boxes, the custom library would not load.
I have narrowed the list down to the following, based on what I typically use.
IF I check Shapes; Shape Expressions; or Smart Lines the library will NOT load, but this combination will:

Unfortunately, when I open a new or existing document and "Load" a custom library, the Articulations and other settings remain at the default.

So, at least I can avoid the "Cannot read file" error message, but to no avail.

Hope this helps someone.|

It's always a good idea to try restarting Finale and/or both rebooting the system. You might delete the preferences file and recreate it first. These measures are known fixes for abnormalities with Finale. Sometimes this error message means only part of the library had a problem but the rest loaded.

If you have a set of libraries or anything you like and want for future work make a template file. Even better make a file exactly the way you want it and save it as a .musx file. You can save more settings this way and be exactly the way you want it each time. Then you can do simple edits to further modify it to the new piece if necessary.

I would even suggest making this "default template" exactly how you will use it, then save it normally as a .musx file. You can save the full instruments with an arbitrary number of measures and measure number positions, rehearsal marks, fonts or whatever and do the simple edits as you need. I have about a dozen+ of these so-called "template files" saved as .musx files and ready to go. For example I have a, EB Concert Band Full, 6th Grade Concert Band, EB Brass Band, EB Bones Midwest, etc.

Example here is my large time sig template.

Having the template file(s) as a basic starting point, creating and afterwards running Perfect Layout on it is as good as Finale gets in 2022.

Thank you yet again, Ernie

Yes, I do make template files when working on a multi-movement work. Nearly all of my compositions employ a different orchestration, and I do try to remember to include custom libraries within them.

Sometimes (often) I find I need to alter the libraries, and that is when I encounter the problems.

Good to know that MakeMusic's glitches are the problem and not on my end. Wish they would fix more of these.

I'm still pondering Perfect Layout. Just waiting for more time to concentrate on it before purchasing.
