Does the cursor move and you get no sound or does it not move at all? If the cursor is moving Finale is playing the sound and you have a problem with your midi setup. If it doesn't move there is a driver conflict somewhere.

yeah nothing happens, I'll see if I can't find the cd and reinstall it

I doubt that will help but it's easy to do just to make sure. It is more likely something is conflicting with it.

yes. 

OK you have a conflict somewhere. They can be difficult to find sometimes. Try updating your sound and video drivers. Make sure you do the video driver even though its a sound issue.

Other possibility is something, hardware or software, you recently added to your computer or setup. Perhaps an OS update?

windows 10, not recently

Windows goes though updates all the time. It is much less, far less, troublesome then Mac OS's are but sometimes it can effect stuff. That is why you need to make sure all your drivers are up to date.

Did you add any software or change any of what you had? You need to trace your steps from when it worked to it didn't work.

well just an update, it works now. have no idea what happened to make it not work and have no idea what happened to make it work.

Just FYI: mac updates are not troublesome at all. I'm even running development seeds of forthcoming updates; they work just fine. Occasional major updates (eg, macOS 12 to macOS 13 let's say) could break the occasional MIDI driver but that's why drivers get updated. I'm using Reason 10 just fine as well as Finale 27.x. None of my major programs have "broken" in a long time and all work just fine. My sense is that Windows updates happen in the background without always requiring user permission but I might be mistaken.
