Here's an image to better explain.

As you can see, the first four staves are positioned as I want them. Somehow I was able to do this. However, when I add measures I can't move them up. If I add more, they end up on a second page.

Save a copy of your file under another name and work on this to try out various possbilities. There are many ways to do it, but with the lead sheet you already started I would just do this: Work in Scroll View to first enter all your measures with notes and lyrics, repeats, etc. Only when you have finished all this, go to Page View and see what it looks like. If you see locked systems (the little lock icon on the right of a system), select everything (Ctrl-A) and go to Utilities > Unlock Systems. You might also apply Music Spacing now. If you want to move measures from one stave to another, select the last measure and move it with the down arrow to the next, or select the first measure and move it wth the up arrow to the previous one (you can also select several measures at once to move them up or down). You should be able to arrive at what you want. Of course there are many variables you should explore - Page and Sytem Setup margins and reductions, etc. all interact with each other and can also control that way how much you want to fit one page.

1) If you like the spacing of systems between systems 1 and 2 :

Page Layout tool.

Select the second system. Page Layout menu : Systems -> Edit Margins. apply from 2 to nothing (leave empty).

2) The number of measures in a system : 

Manually : Selection tool, use the arrow keys (up and down) to move a selected measure to the previous or next system.

Or select a region and use Utilities -> Fit Measures (to impose a specific number of measures per system in that region)

P.S. in the Layout tool, you can change the system margins of a system manually using the handles, and you can grab a system to move it up or down.

No hyphens. Huh, I hadn't noticed that. But you're right, MIKE ROSEN, is there a hyphen control?

If you need an hyphen between the syllables of a word, use Type into Score (Lyrics menu), enter the syllable and type... an hyphen (on your computer keyboard). That will move the cursor to the next note.

Oh, no way to make it happen automatically. Odd.

Finale is not that smart. You have to keep control on when a word is completed. Is it a single syllable word or not ? When you type "cat", is it going to be cat or cat-fish, wall or wall-pa-per ? Finale cannot guess in advance... ;)

Oh well, perhaps in the next iteration.
