I know how to hide empty staves, but is there a way to hide empty measures vertically.
I have a piece that includes a short coda. I would like to create empty space before the coda, meaning no rests and not staff lines.
In the old days I used a white tape that was used on typewriters (for those of you who know what they are... ;-)

Insert a measure stack where you want that empty measure > select the whole measure, all staves > apply Staff Style "Force Hide Staff: Cutaway. Now you have an empty, invisible measure. If you do not want its measure number to be included, go to Edit Measure Atteibutes > un-check "Include in Measure Numbering"
Yes, I select one measure or the whole stack. I did it in scroll view and didn't realize that the space would only show in page view. But the feature of establishing the space before seems to work strangely - sometimes it does, and then again, at times it's greyed out. Haven't figured out why that would be. But basically the plug-in seems to work. The only other thing maybe worth mentioning is that with the Coda plug-in abbreviated group names are being show after the space (but not abbreviated staff names). No necessarily what you'd want, but easily fixed.
The "Create Coda System" plugin works on the score only. It does not work on parts... (...really wish it would!!!)
My work around for coda systems:
1. Extract a part. (or all parts)
2. Run the "Create Coda System" plugin on this new part - which is now both a score and a part (after extracting)
3. Using the Patterson "Copy Page Layout" plugin - copy the extracted part layout back to the linked part in the original document. (FYI - the free JW Plugin that copies part layout does not copy between two different documents.)
4. Repeat for all parts (Thanks MakeMusic...)
...This gives you identical (or at least consistent) coda systems in parts while keeping everything else still linked.
Or manually mess with staff system sizes with the "Page Layout Tool". And... good luck getting them remotely similar in all parts...
Is there a better way to create consistent coda systems in linked parts? Or has someone created a plugin/Lua script to do this in linked parts?
Seems to me that in this particular case, according to the original specific and quite simple question, the most effective method would still be to use a Cutaway staff style. That shows in all the parts, and any "to Coda" etc. information could be just added as an expression.
And yes, after "speaking" Finale for some 25 years, I do actually know what a System or Page/Scroll View is ...
