How can I make a closed hi-hat slur into open hh on beat 3, rather than attack?

Common jazz beat:

(beat 1) open hh 1/4 note

(beat 2) 2 closed hh 1/8 notes, the 2nd of which slurs into open h-h on
beat 3 - so no attack on beat 3, and beat 4 is 2 closed hh 1/8 notes.

But, it sounds weird because beat 3 open hh is being attacked, rather than slurred into.

Help appreciated.

A closed hi hat hit has no sustain. You can notate it slurring into beat 3, but beat 3 needs an attack to be heard.

The opposite is quite common though, hitting an open hi hat and slurring into a closed hi hat.

Then, this very common sound is not possible?

Can you provide a link to a drummer playing the notation you're describing. Perhaps if we can hear the sound we can help more.
