As it is said that there is no sheet music that can not be written in Finale, most sheet music can be written by making full use of the functions of Finale, but what cannot be expressed in Finale, such as special notation, will be borrowed by the help of Adobe Illustrator, a standard of shape software.

For example, Finale also needs the help of external software to draw this special slur when needed, but it can be achieved directly in Dorico.

Will Finale consider adding this function in the future? It's really useful, especially when the layout is crowded and tight.

I have been requesting this since at least the year 2000, but MakeMusic seems to have no interest in upgrading their slur tool.  The only way to do such complex slurs within Finale is to piece them together, which can be somewhat successful if time consuming.

By the way, your slur tips are set to 00.00, which was the default in earlier versions of Finale. Set them to a very small number and you will like the result better. I have mine set to .07 spaces.

If drawing complex slurs is very important to you, Dorico does them beautifully. And no one needed to tell them that it was an essential part of music engraving.

I'm sorry to see your message so late, John. Yes, Dorico can indeed be done very well, but I think Dorico's operation is too rigid. I still long for Finale to make some progressive and pioneering upgrades. I think this is what the MakeMusic team can do, with their update cycle and team reality. They can do it, but they don't do it...

Other posts also mention Finale's defects. Finale is really too old to keep up with the times. The SMuFL added to v27 is the most immature upgrade I think Finale. It brings a lot of bugs, and many plug-ins have not adapted to it,  and there are also many problems when using non-SMuFL fonts.. As other users have said, I don't believe that Finale can make changes and adapt to the times in 1-3 years, but I am sure that Dorico will surpass Finale in 1-3 years. I think this is also the reason for Finale's price reduction. They would rather reduce their price than improve functionality. I really think it's sad because I really love Finale. The more I like it, the more anxious I am...

Sorry, I missed your mention of Dorico in your first post. I agree with you about Dorico. It can do some things that Finale can't, but, as you said, it is too rigid, and there are some things that are awkward to do in Dorico. So I stay with Finale.

I also ran into problems with Finale 27 that MakeMusic could not solve and continue to use Finale 25.

I wouldn't be too anxious, however. So much music has been published using Finale that were MakeMusic to go out of business, a solution would soon be found.
