Exporting Audio, v.27 (exports in real-time!)

One difference I've noticed between v. 26 and v. 27 (Windows 10) is that exporting to a WAV file was very quick in v. 26. It took maybe 30 seconds to export a 5-minute piece of music, and it was as if Finale simply wrote the data to a WAV file. In v. 27, when I export, Finale actually plays the file through my speakers and seems to write to WAV in real-time. I'm curious is others have noticed this and if it's inherent to v. 27 or if there's a setting I need to change to get back to the silent, quick-data-writing mode of export. This would be especially helpful if I'm making a minor change in a larger piece--it would be a shame to go through a 45-minute process to capture one or two changed notes.

Take a look in the MIDI/Audio menu.

Is the option

Play Finale Through MIDI

selected?

When {Play Finale Through MIDI} is selected, audio file export takes seconds.

On The Other Hand,

when the other option - VST - is selected, audio file export is done in real time.

That's very interesting and very helpful--and leads to a further question:

I do have VST enabled, because I use NotePerformer as my instrument library. I had thought I had also had it enabled in v.26 but maybe not, since the audio exports were so rapid. Do you happen to know whether exporting via MIDI will disable the NotePerformer instruments, or should I stick with the VST and the real-time playback if I'm aiming to create sound files with those instruments? Thank you so much for your advice!

It is is either/or.

Either {Play Finale Through MIDI} or through VST.

Setting Playback in NotePerformer is not intuitive. The instructions are pretty clear, however, and if followed precisely will give good results. You can export some staves to other VSTs at the same time (tricky but doable) but, as Peter indicates, you cannot export MIDI simultaneously.

Thank you Mike and Peter. I may have been a little unclear. I wouldn't want to export simultaneously via VST and MIDI--but I was curious whether NotePerformer will export via MIDI or whether I need to use VST for it. If NotePerformer can export via MIDI, I much prefer the very rapid exportation that MIDI offers. But if that precludes exporting the sounds offered in NotePerformer, I'll happily (or maybe not entirely happily) export in real-time for the benefit of having my audio file reflect NotePerformer's sounds.
