There should be a way to have different page numbers on the Score and Each Part for an orchestra work.

I'm working on a large work that has several sections, that I'm working on in separate documents. There are 26 separate pieces and 15 parts in the score. They all need to be combined into a single work for printing, with the page numbers continuing throughout. I need the page numbers to continue into the next document. The problem is the score has 9 pages and the parts have 2, so the second document page numbers start at 10 for the Score but need to start at 3 for the Parts. Is there a way to do this??

Also later in the project the parts will also split off as some have more or less pages. The only solutions that I see is to extract parts, but that's going to be a nightmare to manage.

I would use two different text blocks for the page numbers, one for the score, and another one for the parts.

A. In the score, enter (and position) the page number text block for the parts.

You may prefer to use the command

Text menu > Edit Page Offset…

Then, while viewing the score, hold down the Override key *), and drag the text block to the right until it is outside the page edge.

Because of the Override key the positioning linking will be broken between score and parts, and the text block will not move in the parts.

In that way the text block will not print in the score, even if it is not “hidden”, technically speaking.

B. In the score, enter the page number text block for the score.

Drag it outside the page edge so that it will not show in the parts.

Then, while viewing the score, hold down the Override key, and drag the text block back onto the score page.

Because of the Override key the positioning linking will be broken between score and parts, and the text block will not move in the parts.

*) Are you using Windows Finale or Mac Finale?

Unfortunately the Override key is not the same in Windows and Mac - in Mac Finale the Override key is the Command key.

Am I correct that you are printing the score file by file rather than combining the score into one document?

Otherwise the linked parts would automatically paginate properly.

As Adrian points out, Finale is set up to do what you want automatically as long as the files are combined into a single document. If separate documents, Peter has set you on the right course.
