I was using a prepared template for a series of similar Finale documents, and as you say it may well have been corrupted. I have carried out your XML trick and it is working. Many thanks, Peter.

PS I have also noticed that the locks are abnormal. Some staves have two and some have none.... perhaps this is not important.

Hello Peter, No, I refer to the numbers on the left, allotted to each staff. The "Edit System Margins" does allow me to insert the missing numbers successfully.
