-it's the latest OS version (10.13.6) -yes, all my fonts that finale needs, including Toccata, are in HD/library/fonts no duplicates in the user folder either... -resetting preferences doesn't help...

p.s. if anyone ever has a similar problem: in my case the culprit causing these problems was the font "Opus Fonts" (no ending...) ...hmm.. interesting, as it's from that other notation grogram... ...
