I've tried this too and unfortunately, it doesn't work either. The grace note ends up replacing the 1/4 note entirely.
Voila! That has done it! I checked my zoom percentage and wasn't zoomed in enough to place the grace note separately. I knew it had to be something simple that I was overlooking. Thanks for the fee...
