I got the same result. Any attempt to enter lyrics gave me the spinning beach ball. Have you tried trashing the preference file?

Sometimes, you have to respace manually. If there is a long word on a short note, none of the automatic tricks will work. You can adjust it with beat spacing or with the mouse shifting the lyric.

Once you’ve saved it as the exported graphic, can you import that into the expression tool? I suspect that will keep your graphic from migrating. If it does, then, you can assign a metatool.
