I’ll agree with Peter, adding that the font size you choose may make the expression character too small to see. Insert a hard space, and add the expression rest later.

Not exactlymsure what you want. An eighth test in the lyrics themselves? Or, how to set up the,notation to indicate a difference in the lyric verses?

How are you entering the natural sign?

I suspect you have Automatic Music Spacing turned off in your Preferences. I prefer to leave it off, and update the spacing with (on windows) CTRL-4
