 Windows 8.1 Finale 2014.5

I opened a doc made in 2007 in 2014.5. When I extract parts the instrument names are missing on every part.

Have you put the Score/Part Insert in a text field in the Score or any parts?

This is accessed in Finale 25 by Choosing the Text tool from the Main palette, double clicking on the score in the upper left hand corner (traditionally) to add a text string. Then, with the new empty text string still selected, pull down the main menu bar Text menu, choose the Inserts sub-menu, and then the Part/Score Name menu item. In the score, you will see the word Score. You will immediately see the part name in each part.

Surprisingly, there is no automatic part name setting for linked parts.

It depends on the templates you use.

JAV,

Is there an option to have the Part/Score Name already inserted if you make your own ensemble with the wizard?

When I use the Setup Wizard in Finale 25.4 and select either Engraved Style or Handwritten Style, the resulting score automatically includes the Score insert in the upper left corner of page 1.

Perhaps this was not the practice in Finale 2007. If so, those files would have to be updated manually. It is not that onerous a process.

I created my score with F2014. When I open the score with 2014, it handles the naming of the parts, placing of the part names beautifully. When I open the score in F25, I get the word "Score" on all the parts instead of the part names, and the title of the parts when using Print linked part -> PDF Save is incorrect... it adds the part name into the title twice. Also, the F25 print part dialogue has "Score" checked all the time, where as the F2014 print part dialogue correctly checks the part we are currently editing.

So, there seem to be some backwards compatibility issues with F25 and F2014 in regards to managing and printing linked parts.

Instead of “printing” to PDF, use the Graphics Tool:

Graphics menu > Export Pages…

In the Export Pages dialog box, choose PDF.

In that way you get PDF files in true “Black-and-White” (=> smaller file sizes).

Also, using the Graphics Tool is slightly faster than “printing” to PDF.

You didn't by any chance port your F2014 files into v25 via XML, did you? Doing so will convert the Score Insert into a static text field and wipe out your linked parts, so even when you recreate the parts, they will only put "Score" in the upper left corner.

Otherwise, I have not experienced your situation bringing F2014.5 files into v25.
