I'm doing some a cappella arrangements, and I have to have the original recorded versions of songs I'm arranging from YouTube by my side, but the problem is when I have both Finale PrintMusic 2014 and YouTube playing at the same time, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome respond differently neither of them works. On IE, videos won't play at all whereas GC would play but no audio or just pause altogether. On occasion, when I have GC up and I open up Finale PM 2014, I get a message saying "Audio engine failed to load." By the way, I'm using Windows here. Can someone kindly lend me a helping hand?

Hello Anthony,

If you right click on the speaker icon in the bottom right > select Playback Devices > click on whatever is labeled as Default Device > Properties > Advanced > uncheck all boxes under "Exclusive Mode" > Apply > OK > OK. This should get you setup!

Sorry it took so long to respond, but I'm having more problems. Now when I play a video on YouTube whether on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, it won't play back at all while I'm on Finale Print Music. Can you give me a helping hand?

I have a similar situation; PrintMusic 2014 works fine until I play sound through other devices such as YouTube, VLC player etc, in which case the next time I use PrintMusic Play, the program puts a 1 - 3 second delay between the cursor position and the notes you actually hear.

This is appalling, since it makes it impossible to check the timing of, for instance, drum beats.

SongWriter 2102 never did this, and I think I may have to revert to it.

I tried Kevin's suggestion and found that I have both Exclusive Mode boxes are checked.

I am using 32-bit Windows 7 and a CMedia 8768 audio card which does not have any bad habits. I use Reaper to record the music from Finale, either directly by playing the audio, or by exporting the .wav file for a selected part.

I find that if Reaper is running (using DirectSound audio system), and I attempt to start PrintMusic, PrintMusic says its Audio Engine will not start, and (PM) then goes into a freeze mode, and you have to use <CONTROL+ALT+DELETE> to get into the Windows Task Manager in order to end the PrintMusic process and allow the PC to work again.

This is clearly not supposed to happen, and it is not clear to me that there are any settings that cause it; I've tried numerous combinations to no avaail. It is obviously very convenient to have both Finale and Reaper running at the same time so that changes can be made to the music "on the fly" as I have been doing succesfully with SongWriter 2012 and Notepad 2003 (since 2003!).

I am sure Finale's programmers will be able to solve the issue but will hold off buying it until they do.

Your tip worked so that I can now listen to youtube and work on Finale 14.5 arrangements of the songs at the same time.  However, now Finale 214.5 will not playback the arrangements. I can only manually listen to each separate chord in the score.  How do I get playback back?
