Attempt to save fails, and upon closing Finale it completely deletes all .MusX files that have unsaved updates

This was entered as request #49488.

It was indicated to me that this has happened to more people than just me. It should be a high priority to find out why this happens and prevent it.

I've had software that fails and you lose your changes since the last Save, but I've never seen anything as unacceptable as the original file being deleted. The first time it happened to me the file was the result of 3 months' work. If it were not for the .BakX backup, I would have been devastated.

When I try to do a save I get the message
Error 2 copying file "C:\Users\Bohl\AppData\Local\Temp\FIN80B8.tmp\presets\1.preset".
The system cannot find the file specified.
I tried Save and Save As and both get the message. And the file really does not exist.
If I give up and close Finale, all .MusX files that had changes since the last successful save are completely gone.

Because this has happened to me twice, I completely distrust Finale (version 25). I've gotten the second-nature habit that every time I enter or update a measure, I do a quick Ctrl-S (Save).

If I get that message again I can
1) Ctrl-C (copy) the measure I had changed
2) close Finale without saving
3) copy and rename the .BakX backup file (because the .MusX file is gone)
4) Restart Finale and open the .MusX file
5) paste the measure I had updated into the open file

The error then does not recur. Everything is back to normal.

But this is NOT something users should have to do to protect themselves!

Your profile does not say which version of Finale you are using or which version of Windows. That info would be important when considering the interaction of the two in saving (or not saving) files.

Personally, I always change the name of my file when making changes, from yesterday's filename170217.musx to today's filename170218.musx just to be sure I always have a backup.

EDIT: Thank you for naming your version of Finale. Still need to know what version of Windows you are in.
