Mac OSX 10.11.6

Finale 14.5

How do I change a key signature from F# to Gb within a section of a piece without altering the entire part?  Other postings suggest unchecking "simplify key" in the Score Manager and changing interval and key alter numbers.  This corrects the section but adversely affects the other key signatures within the piece.

Hi Brian,

Fortunately, you can set the exact settings as you would in the Score Manager, but set them in a new staff style which can be applied to a specific region.

You can create a new staff style by right-clicking on staff using the Staff tool, choosing Define Staff Styles, and clicking the New button in the upper, right-hand corner of the Staff Styles dialog box. Use the Transposition option to adjust the settings for your staff's key accordingly.

You will have to apply your staff style to a region using the Staff tool (highlight a section, right-click, and choose your staff style).

Hope this helps!

I followed these steps, and after choosing the "0" and "-11", I hit OK. That brought me to the previous page, "staff styles". I hit OK on that page, and that closed and returned me to my score-but with no changes to the key signature. Did I do something wrong, or is there another step?

Yes, there is another step:

Staff Tool.

Select the region where you need to change the Staff Transposition.

Then, apply your new, custom staff style to the selected region.

Doing that gave me a key signature of 7 flats, when I need 6. What do I need to do to get Gb and not Cb as a key signature?

Paul Kolar,

We need more info.

I do not know why you can not just use the Key Signature Tool to change the key signature of those specific measures.

That is what I would do.

Perhaps you only need to change the key signature of one specific (transposing) instrument?

Please explain.

I am confident that we can help you, but we need to know a little more.

The better we understand, the better we can help.
