I have tried to find solutions or explanations for this to no avail, even though I am obviously not the only person experiencing this problem. I am working on an opera with a fairly large orchestra in GPO 5. Every time I try to do a play through of a completed scene or even part of a scene, the programme crashes after about 2 or 3 minutes. The files are all less than 1MB, so with an i7 processor running at 4GHZ and 16GB of RAM that shouldn't be a problem. I am running 2014.5.7098 on OS 10.12.4. I never experienced this problem on my previous, much older and slower Mac running Fin2012.

I am extremely reluctant to upgrade to 25 because of the way ambience is handled (which I was unable to get to function properly on the trial version). Is it simply the result of slight incompatibilities between 2014.5 and OS 10.12 (why for, example to the menus still not work properly after more than six months?) or negotiating between 2014.5 and GPO 5?

Any insights appreciated.

I do not think your problem is due to the absence of Finale 25. How much hard drive space do you have? Do you keep your Finale Temporary Files in a separate folder that you can clean out? I am guessing the playback does not stop at the same spot each time or you would have noticed.(Sorry, just grasping at straws here.)

I have 1TB drive with 900 GB free which, obviously, should be fine. Even if the file is fragmented, which it shouldn't be since there is so much free space, the processor should be more than able to handle it. I suspect 2014.5 just hasn't been brought into full compatibility with 10.12 yet... :-(

Hi Simon,

Thanks for posting!

Definitely some great suggestions here already, but if the issue persists, I would suggest contacting our Customer Success team so we can take a closer look. You can do so using the Submit a request link at the top of this page. To get a head start on things, you can replicate the crash and then use the steps below to gather a crash log to include in your ticket:

1. In the Finder program toolbar, choose Go > Go to Folder. Type or copy & paste the following location:

~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/

2. Locate the latest Finale (Version 25) crash report. Typically this name will read (the product name)(the date of the crash)(your user name).crash.
3. Attach that ".crash" file to your reply to this case.

Hopefully this issue will get sorted soon!
