I've notated a chord with an alternate bass (Gadd9/B) and want to display the alternate bass in stacked format, so I can fit in this lengthy chord symbol in my score without having to throw the measure spacing way off.

My question: When I put my alt. bass in the stacked format, there is way too much space between the underscore beneath the top part of the chord symbol and the letterform for the alt bass note. Is there a way to adjust this to eliminate this gap? (FYI: I'm using Jazz Chord font.)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I could be wrong here, but As Far As I Know, this is a “shortcoming” in Finale’s Chord Tool.

The gap size depends on the font.

You might get a smaller gap by changing the font.

Thanks, Peter. I was hoping there might be some sort of control for leading or kerning of these characters, but apparently, Finale only provides lateral or vertical adjustment within a chord symbol. Maybe I can build a suffix that would do with I want. Not exactly "legit," but it might solve the display problem.

Remembering that there are good controls or adjusting character position in the chord suffix editor, I was able to create a "suffix" for "add9/B"…

I sized down the font for the "add9" from the default and made the "/B" part of the chord suffix, so I could adjust the placement. Though it wouldn't give me an accurate playback result and only works for this song, it solved my problem. Compare that to the default…
