Hi  -

I'm on MAC OS 10.9.5, Finale 2014.5.  I have questions about notating single note muffles on the harp.  In the past, I have used the muffle mark from the Tamburo font to denote a single note muffle, but I would like to have the muffle notated as a note with the note head changed to a muffle mark.  Is that possible?  Attaching some examples.  Measure 1 is the old way.  Measures 2 and 4 are places I would like to replace the LH half notes on beat 2 to muffle notes.  Odd, not able to insert or attach.  Hope you get the picture.

Thanks,

Michelle

What sort of files are you trying to attach?

You can not attach Finale documents, but you can attach graphics, e. g. .GIF - .JPG - .PNG files.

You may want to broach this subject either via the "Submit a request" link above or via the Features suggestion page at

since as MM works to make Finale SMuFL compatible, they may be able to include some (or all) of the Tambura symbols into the extended MM notation font.

Here are some harp symbols from Bravura, Steinberg's SMuFL demonstration font as an example how SMuFL fonts are organized.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with SMuFL... not sure what that is.  But it sounds like you are saying that there isn't currently a way to replace a note head with a muffle mark.  I know I've seen it in other publications, I feel like it should be possible somehow.  Anyway, thank you for your reply.

You can replace a notehead with a symbol from another font. Use Special Tools > Note Shape Tool. Click in the measure, right click on the handle of the notehead you want to replace and choose Edit. Choose your font and symbol.

Bruce,

The right-click Special Tools option was something I didn't know about. Many thanks for pointing it out!
