writing a drum set with 3 layers. Layer 3 has hi hat, Layer 2 Snare and Layer 1 Kick drum. Stems up for Hi hat and snare, trying combing these two but they

don't line up. What's the best way to create this type of Drum set line, with all 3 instruments? Im using Finale 2014 Mac Maverick 10.9.5Im

This is the way I've often seen it done. Notes played by the hands = stem up. Notes played with the feet = stem down. If you need to get more complicated than that, you might have to go with two staves (according to some drum books).

Thank you Jadrian,

I seem to have issues with everything lining up with the hi hat and kick drum. as you can see in the above attachment. How do you create the two hand parts with stems up? Is it in one layer?

It is in Layer 1. The Drum Set percussion layout takes care of the noteheads.
