I don't understand why Finale is colliding the grace notes in measure 3 with the accidental and the clef, as though the accidental and clef were not there. Grace note offset is set to 38 EPVU's and Music Spacing is set to Reset To Grace Note Offset, with all Collision Avoidance boxes checked. Edit Preferences are set to Automatic Music Spacing. When I change Grace Note Music Spacing to Automatic the same problem continues. Finale 27 and Windows 11

For me, the eighth note grace note did not collide with the accidental.

However, I did get collision between the sixteenth note grace notes and the bass clef.

I fixed the problem by using two regular, resized sixteenths.

Thanks Peter. Does that mean adding a 1/2 beat to the bar ?

And I wonder why your first grace note doesn't collide with the sharp, yet mine does ?

I did not add ½ beat.

Instead I made room for the two sixteenths by changing the previous quarter to a non-displaying tuplet:

2 Eighths in the space of 1 Eighth

What are your settings?

I am talking about

Document menu > Document Options > Grace Notes

and

Document menu > Document Options > Music Spacing

I suspect that the culprit can be found somewhere in your settings.

But now, when I change the Music Spacing - Grace Note option to Automatic, it works OK so this must have been some sort of bug in my computer. Sorry ! But I do often have infuriating problems with grace note spacings that seem incomprehensible so you may be hearing from me again at some point with more of these questions. MANY THANKS !!

Ian Swedlund,

By The Way:

In your example the first sixteenth grace note was notated as a ‘c’.

I suspect that it should be ‘c♯’ - as shown in my attached graphic.

Gosh - you are absolutely right about that. I will check and fix it.
