Disable automatic beaming after music has been entered.

Is there a way, or work around, that will disable automatic beaming after music has been entered? Here's what I talking about- I entered music with no beams across eighth-notes in a 4/4 Time Signature. Now if I make any changes to a measure, such as add a tie with Simple Entry Tool, all of the unbeamed eighth-notes are automatically beamed in the working layer of the staff for that measure. It's a nuisance issue.

Automatic beaming and rebeaming can be disabled. How and under what circumstances depends on many factors including whether you are using Simple Entry or Speedy Entry. Begin with this page:

If you set your time signature to 8/8, but set to display as 4/4 (or whatever you are using) the eighth notes should remain individual. BTW, there is no need to use layers 3 and 4 in your lower staff. You can use 1 and 2 there, as well.
