I am working on a file for marching band. The composer wrote the music in Sibelius. I exported as an XML file, then imported it into Finale v25 on Windows 10. I am trying to get multimeasure rests to show up in my parts. When I extract the part, all of the rests show up as individual measures. In the utilities pull down, I have tried to create multi measure rests in the parts/score, as well as tried to create in an individual part once it was extracted. Neither works. Any words of advice?
When importing an xml file from Sibelius, one of the bugs is what you found. All whole rests become real whole rests which prevents the creation of multi-measure rests.
You need to turn the real whole rests back into default whole rests. There's a plugin which does this, or you could erase each whole rests manually. After you're done, then run the create multimeasure rest command and everything should be back to normal.
