Windows 10 Pro (OS Build 17763.253) Finale 26 (26.0.1.655)

After 2 weeks of successful operation I am now unable to use Finale 26.

On opening I get an error message "This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy.  Choose 'switch to' to activate the busy program and correct the problem'

I cannot get beyond this point.

Having read of similar issues I have renamed the .ini files (forcing Finale to create new ones) and this has not solved the issue.

A temporary "fix" is to manually stop the Printer Spooler which allows me to get into and work with Finale.

This cannot be a Windows problem (as has been suggested on these forums) because no other program running in this environment has this problem! The suggestion that buying a dedicated print spooler is the solution is ludicrous.

Can you offer any advice please?

Presumably you have restarted Windows since that and restarting Finale (which you say you have done) are usually the first two suggestions.

 

I would think that if your print spooler were the problem, you would have had problems right from the start. Have you used the "Submit a request" link at the top of the page to report this problem directly to MakeMusic Support?

Thank you for your response.

I decided to delete my printer and reinstall it. For the moment this seems to have cured the problem.

What surprises me is that Finale is so sensitive. No other applications had any printer related issues.

Does Finale make particularly difficult demands on the Windows print service?
