Why don't ties from the Smart Shape Palette stay in the place you put them?

Why don't ties from the Smart Shape Palette stay in the place where you put them?
It's very frustrating - you place the tie to tie a note to another note and it does not stay in the same place you put it, but flips
up to some default position at the top of the staff, then it take 5 more clicks to get into the original place you wanted. Is there some way to defeat this "Stupid Shape" feature?

I have tried deleting or changing every entry in the "Smart" shape dialog box but this does nothing. ARGGG.

Gregory,

It sounds like you're using the slur tool to create ties. That won't work.

To create a tie, you do not use the smart shape tool. You place ties with either SImple Entry or Speedy entry, whichever method you use.

You use the smart shape tool to place slurs in your music.

Thanks, but maybe I was not clear.

In the pic below, you can see all the ties that I have had to create - in measure 24

as far as i know, the only was to create these ties is to use the smart slur menu-

maybe I am missing something, but the tie operation in the Speedy menu

will not create ties like this, on;ly between ADJACENT notes or chords.

When I use the Smart slur and place it in the score EXACTLY where I want it - it never stays, and jumps up to a default position.

The ties between measure 25 and 26 tool 82 clicks to fix, because the slur kept jumping off where I put it.

Use ties, not slurs. Then use Special Tools tie tool to move the end of to the correct note. Ties will not change position, slurs will.

Thanks, this seems to work better, but I cannot see how you connect two notes across a bar line - as in ms. 25-6 when the second measure is in the NEXT SYSTEM. I can't get the tie to appear and connect with the note in the next measure when the next measure is in the next system. This could be shown in the pic above but the usless graphics program in Finale keeps cutting off the right hand side of the page above. It is similar to ms 26-7

I do it this way in Speedy, Simple might be different. Hold down the option key and double click ms. 26. The edit frame dialog box appears. You click "tie end" near the bottom. Then click "next" to toggle through the notes selecting which ones needs ties. A lot of this is trial and error, takes some time.

A quick & easy solution is in ms. 26 add ties to all notes on beat one of the treble clef. Then with Special Tools tie mover, drag these ties to the left side of the note, to where it looks good. This won't playback correctly, but will look right on paper.
