It's not just chord symbols! I am trying to notate a B-flat-major chord for strings in whole notes (can you believe it?), and my Finale program, which I just updated the other day started crashing when I finished the chord. Boom. I reassigned the parts, and it happened again. Then I restarted the computer, and it happened when I entered the first whole note.

Please address this issue soon.  I have work to do!

Elaine Fine,

When you report a crash, please tell the exact steps to reproduce the problem.

Without knowing, precisely what you are notating, and your method of doing so, it can be difficult to reproduce the problem.

Finale user Jason Loffredo has given exact steps to reproduce the Chord Tool problem:

“It crashes every time I go in and out of the Chord Definition Dialogue Box. To be more specific, if I make a change to any box where I can enter a value and then click OK, Finale crashes every time. However, If I make a change in a box (say the Suffix ID box) then click on the Chord Symbol Box again at the top of the window so that that Chord Symbol box is highlighted again and THEN click OK, it does NOT crash.”

Reg. the first issue you mention:

I have just tried “to notate a B-flat-major chord for strings in whole notes”.

It worked for me - Finale did not crash.

The exact steps for me were (in Page view):

1. Use simple entry to put a whole note in measure 1 of the first violin part

2. put a whole note in measure in measure 2 of the second violin part

3. Do the same with the viola part, and the cello part

4. Put a whole note in the bass part.  CRASH   I repeated this in a different order, and when I got to the fifth note, there was a crash. I restarted Finale, and the program crashed after the fifth note. I tried in speedy entry, and had the same problem.  I restarted the computer, and had the same problem.

I have been able to work in scroll view without a problem (except for when I couldn't get the Pizz. sound to stop, as mentioned in another problem). I have really never had problems with Finale before (except for problems involving strange tremolo glitches that make pages disappear).

Elaine Fine,

I suppose that your “exact steps” are in Page View, right?

To get the “exact steps”, just one more question:

When you use Simple Entry to “put a whole note in measure 1”, what Input Device are you using?

- MIDI keyboard?

- Computer keyboard?

- Mouse?

- or?

Elaine Fine,

Unfortunately I have not been able to duplicate your crash.

I believe that I followed your steps to the letter, but Finale did not crash.

Using computer keyboard in Simple Entry I entered a B-flat-major whole note chord in a 5-staff score with two Violin staves, one Viola staff, one Cello staff, and one Bass staff (I entered one whole note in each staff).

I wonder whether this issue is document specific.

Does it happen in all documents?

I sent the "reports" to Apple.  Maybe the crashing is an Apple problem.

I re-created the score I was working on from scratch to deal with another brand-new problem (arco indication not switching to arco from pizzicatto), and I was able to make it in page view without a crash. However, the pizzicatto/arco problem happened again. I would appreciate it if you could try to reproduce the pizz/arco problem (it would just take a minute). I did it with a KS violin sound, and I had pizz on two violin voices for eight measures, and when I switched to arco, the pizz sound remained. There was no way I could get an arco sound.

Earlier I made a new test document where there wasn't a problem, but I only had the pizz in one voice.
