I play jazz gigs with a couple of horns and a pianist, and we use Finale files consisting of bass and drums to play along to.

Our typical Finale file consists of a head in, a series of choruses (generally 32 bars with a set number of repeats), and a head out.

For our purposes, the tracks work perfectly—except for one thing.

Ideally, we’d like to be able to improvise over the choruses without having to decide in advance how many choruses we’re going to play. What we need is a way to tell Finale, while it’s playing, “This is the last chorus—stop repeating and go on to the next section.”

Finale does not have that capability.

Has anyone found a workaround or another way to accomplish this with Finale files?

I haven't switched over to Dorico yet, but I assume Dorico doesn't have that feature, either.

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure there’s no way to do that in Finale. Or MuseScore. Or Dorico. I can’t conceive of any way to set that up, unless you had one computer with the infinite loop, and another computer cued up to the end. But somebody still has to press the buttons!
