Is Piano_m_G5_0002102C.audio the name of the instrument or the error message?

What version of Finale? Is Finale stored on your System Drive or elsewhere? What about your Finale docs (aka work files)?

Piano_m_G5_0002102C.audio is the audio file that Finale tries to load and freezes on during score creation AND playback.  I'm not receiving an error message.

I'm on version 27.2.  It's stored on my System Drive.  As are the work files.

Actually, Piano_m_G5_0002102C.audio the G5 note only from that piano. It is found in Garritan Instruments for Finale, GPO 4, GPO 5, Garritan Smart Score among other places on my Mac. See my screen shot. There are 87 other notes from that same piano in as many places.

Is it possible that, when you installed 27.2, you didn't run the second installer for Aria/GIFF? There was a new version of that released with 27.2 but I'm not certain everyone got the word that it had to be run again.

I recommend downloading and reinstalling Finale 27.2 and running both installers: 27.2 and Aria/GIFF. Reboot.

When done, do a Safe Boot by shutting down and holding the Shift Key on start up. Log into your USER account when prompted. After all desktop icons finish rebuilding. Reboot again. This clears up any corrupted System paths and resets caches to Default. Old Mac users will recognize it as Rebuild Desktop from the earliest days and it still does that, too.

This should fix you up. If not, rattle the cage of MM Support through the Submit a request link.

How do I run the Aria/GIFF installer?  It doesn't give me the option for that at Finale installation.

I have NotePerformer - would that cause any of this headache?

Download 27.2. Run the installer. There will be a second installer that appears automatically. Many dismiss or close this thinking it’s redundant along the lines of “I’ve already done that…” but it has to be run, also. Others knowing what it is will think the same, “I’ve already installed Aria and GIFF”. Again, don’t dismiss that second installer—especially with 27.2 per MakeMusic.

Reboot after both have been run. The Safe Boot might not be necessary but I’d do it anyway to repair any System paths that have been corrupted. I’m pretty certain that you have either a corrupted audio file or a System path. This takes care of both.

I'm not seeing a second installer.  I only get the Finale installer.

GIFF files re-install when I re-install Finale, but I'm still having the same problem even after following all of your other suggestions.  Finale Tech Support had me delete the Garritan folder earlier this morning, then re-install, to no avail.

Edison from Make Music Support shot me this, and it worked!!

1. Close any open applications
2. Open a new Finder Window
3. Choose Go > Applications from the Finder Toolbar at the top of the computer screen
4. In the Applications folder, find your "Finale" icon and drag it to the Trash
5. Locate any "Finale" icons on your Dock and move them to the Trash as well
6. In the Finder program toolbar, choose Go > Go to Folder
7. Type or copy & paste the following location:
   • ~/Library/Preferences
8. Click Go
9. In this Preferences folder, find a file named "com.makemusic.finale27.fprf". Drag it into the Trash
10. In the Finder program toolbar, choose Go > Go to Folder
11. Type or copy & paste the following location:
    • ~/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic
12. Click Go
13. Verify that you have no personal files in the "Finale 27" folder (or its sub-folders)
14. Drag the "Finale 27" folder to the Trash
15. In the Finder program toolbar, choose Go > Go to Folder
16. Type or copy & paste the following location:
    • /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic
17. Click Go
18. Drag the "Finale 27" folder to the Trash
19. Empty your Trash
20. Restart your computer
21. Re-install Finale by downloading it from your MakeMusic account
22. Relaunch Finale and see if the issue has been resolved
