Alt -0186 is a Windows code. How did you use it on a Mac?
I was taught to change the key at the next measure, and add accidentals to the lead-in notes. You can change time signatures and clefs mid-measure, but I'm not sure about keys. If you must do it ...

Have you clicked Save Preferences at the bottom of the File Menu?
Are you using the full Finale, or PrintMusic? PM only has the options to resize the Page, System, or Staff.
