You can also use Speedy entry, put the cursor on the note and press p. You will then also get a parenthesis (). Press p again and the parenthesis will disappear.

Thanks for the reply Malcolm. The workaround solved the issue in Finale but made all my other programs very tiny. For instance Outlook and Chrome... So I guess it solved one problem but created oth...
