For the piano, I have a chord in the upper staff (treble clef) of middle C down to A (a minor 3rd). In the lower staff, (bass clef) I have the chord of E (just below the chord in the upper staff) down to C (a major 3rd). I want to insert a vertical bracket just to the left of the four notes with little ticks at the top and bottom of the bracket going a short distance to the right. This is to indicate to the pianist to play all four notes of the the A minor chord (in first inversion) with the right hand.

I've messed around with smart shapes and other things, but nothing has worked so far. Anyone know how to do this?

My first thought is that a shape expression can do what you need.

With the Shape Designer you have full control over the bracket, including line length and line thickness.

Advice:

The layout work in the Shape Designer will be easier if you set Finale to small Measurement Units, like the (small) Points or the (very small) EVPUs.

The height of a scale step is 3 Points (12 EVPUs).

The distance between staff-lines is 6 Points (24 EVPUs).

The staff height is 24 Points (96 EVPUs).

(And the default size for the Music Font is 24 Points - the same as the staff height)
