Hello,

I'm using the recent upgrade of Finale 25.2.0.92 on Windows 10.  After a few times that I have started and stopped playback, I'm getting the prompt "Finale has encountered and error and will shut down" beside a yellow exclamation mark.  This wasn't happening prior to the most recent update of F25.  It's usually about the 4th or 5th stop of playback.  Any suggestions?

Hi Patrick,

Just curious, does this happen on a file newly created with the Setup Wizard (File > New > Document With Setup Wizard)? Or, is it just a particular file(s)?

It's an older file that was brought in that I'm rewriting, but not unblievably old, last used in F2012 I'm thinking... I have to say though that I had opened and used HP on many older files when I first installed V25 without problem, this seems to have cropped up on the latest update... I'm guessing it's a HP thing, but I'm really hoping that we don't have to once again start shutting down HP, I mainly write full symphony orchs and prefer the playback as is.  Any help would be appreciated

I'm assuming that when you brought the old file forward into v25, you saved it as a v25 file before the problems appeared. Is that right?

Correct, it is a V25 file.  Everything works on it, I'm not struggling with any function other than the fact that after about 4 or 5 playbacks, when you stop a subsequent playback the above mentioned prompt comes up in a box center screen, the program closes, re-opens, and gives the option to recover the file (which it does successfully).

My system..Windows 7/ Finale 25.2 will not playback in MIDI or VST mode. Tech support has been advising solutions for over a week without a solution.  I'm at wits end.  Now what?

Hello Patrick, you likely stumbled on the same problem as I did.

If so, it is the Human Playback that actually crashes. Try disabling it (from the menu, choose "MIDI/Audio" -> "Human Playback" -> "None") and you should be able to play your score. It crashes on a step named "Preprocessing file for Human Playback", and a sub-step called "Retrieving score items". Not precisely sure what prevents it from "retrieving" those score items, but at about 29% of progress it crashes. My score is rather short (two pages of it, to be precise, two instruments). I'm sure it's not because there are "too many notes".

Of course, with Human Playback disabled, my score sounds horrible, and, to be honest, HP is the reason I use Finale for, so if I cannot use HP anymore, I'm going to start to look eslewhere... :-( Too bad.

Just a fair question: does MakeMusic have a plublicly accessible bug tracker? I would very much love to report this bug there.

Thank you,
Claudius

P.S.: this happens in the latest version (Finale v.26), BUT, lately, started to happen in finale 2014 as well. So, considering that Microsoft rolled quite a lot of upgrades lately, could it be that some C library Human Playback uses became incompatible with Windows 10? Mine, by the way, is:

Edition: Windows 10 Pro

Version: 1903

OS Build: 18362.720
